Steve offers the clients of WALLACEPLEDGER, PLLC more than twenty-five years of trial and transactional legal experience, which includes having served as an insurer's trial attorney almost 10 years. The breadth of Steve's experience was significantly expanded in two other Richmond firms of substance before joining WALLACEPLEDGER at the end of 2002. Steve provides the firm with a knowledgeable and experienced trial lawyer and a transactional expert whose diverse experience enables the firm to serve a variety of litigation and non-litigation needs. Steve's work is now concentrated in four practice areas.
AREAS OF CONCENTRATION
GENERAL CIVIL AND CRIMINAL LITIGATION
Steve provides representation to individuals in a wide variety of litigated matters involving personal injury actions and criminal charges. He has tried more than fifty cases to a conclusion before a jury involving personal injury, insurance defense, and property damages. His experience includes cases arising from defectively designed products and from dangerous conditions in buildings and real property. He has also provided counsel in cases of assorted malpractice against professionals.
In the area of criminal law, Steve represents adult and juveniles in all courts of the Commonwealth. He routinely handles both misdemeanor and felony cases including murder.
BUSINESS LAW AND BUSINESS LITIGATION
Steve represents many small businesses in Central Virginia. His services include advice on the choice of business entity, handling the formation and dissolution of the business, and advising and litigating contract and employment disputes, covenants not to compete, business financing, acquisitions, asset sales, and buy-sell agreements. Steve has also represented companies and individuals before state and federal courts and administrative agencies in discrimination and labor law violations.
REAL ESTATE LAW AND REAL PROPERTY TRANSACTIONS
Throughout his legal career in the private practice of law, Steve has represented buyers and sellers of residential and commercial real estate. He regularly handles the coordination, preparation, and oversight for "closings" in the purchase and sale of such real estate. This representation requires that he work closely with and comply with the lending requirements of banks and other financial institutions. His knowledge and experience in real estate transactions is enhanced by the firm's ownership of a title insurance agency licensed by the Commonwealth and brokered with Southern Title Insurance Company and Transnation Title Insurance Company.
Apart from transactions involving the purchase and sale of real estate, Steve handles disputes involving the lease, occupancy and use of real estate. In providing that representation Steve draws not only upon his legal education but from his studies in land planning while attending post-graduate courses at Virginia Commonwealth University.
DOMESTIC RELATIONS AND FAMILY LAW
In the areas of family and domestic relations law, Steve provides representation in four primary areas: separation and divorce; spousal support; child custody and support and equitable distribution of marital assets. For 27 years Steve has handled domestic relations issues in the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Courts, the District and Circuit Courts of the Commonwealth. He also provides representation to clients seeking assistance with adoption and other traditional family matters such as contracts, leases, wills, and estate planning.
